What model of Mac are you using? So far, it looks like a Color Classic problem with me and Drumace.

Just found out that I can connect to my iMac with
10.5 by using AFP Enagage! that comes with Shareware IP. It doesn't let
you log in as the owner, like the chooser offers, but it will get you
connected to shares you have manually setup in OS X. Note: Mine give
me an error that it fails to mount the AFP URL I've typed in, but it
mounts regardless.

I've had the same problem with my PB 170 and PB 190
(http://forums.system7today.com/viewtopic.php?t=1294). In each case, my
old Powerbooks crash after Step 4 in the Tutorial
(http://main.system7today.com/articles/leopard/tutorial1/index.html). I
have done fresh installs of 7.6.1 on both machines, and a fresh install
of 8.1 on the PB 190, all according to the rules posted on S7T,
including using OT 1.1.2 and 1.3, and Appleshare 3.7.4, 3.8.3 and 3.8.7,
but no luck. Incidentally, LPR printing to Leopard shared printers
using LaserWriter 8.6 is also broken. I am networking to a (original)
MacBook server, or an iBook 1.07GHz server, both over AirPort, whereas
the clients are on ethernet (PB170) and WaveLAN wireless (PB190). Both
work in reverse using Shareway IP.
Based on previous comments and the fact I've tried PPC and Intel
machines, I don't think it's a 68k/Leopard problem or a 68k/PPC/Intel
issue.
The only evidence I've found is that with the Firewall activated in
Leopard, and logging turned on, I get the following message in my
Firewall log:
Allow AppleFileServer connecting from 192.168.2.15:2051 uid = 0 proto=6
Furthermore, under sharing setup in Leopard, even after the System 7 powerbook has crashed, Leopard shows "1 user connected"
My 12" Powerbook G4 1GHz using Tiger still networks like a champ in both directions.
I'd be interested to hear the configurations that have worked for other
users out there, and if anyone has any further insight into this issue!
cheers,
Roy

Has anybody been able to resolve the issue with
Leopard and system 7? Currently, I am not able to set up a working
connection either way between my Powerbook 180c, running System 7.5.5,
and my PM G4 with 10.5.7. When trying to connect from the G4 to the
Powerbook with the help of ShareWay IP, I can see the G4 on the monitor
of ShareWay and the Powerbook even appears in the Leopard-Finder, but
only for a short time, then it disappears again. From System 7 to
Leopard, I can access the G4 in the Chooser only as guest, and after
having chosen one of the shares, the chooser crashes.
In Tiger, at least the connection from System 7 to Tiger used to work flawlessly.
Any help is appreciated.

I have had no success making this work either.
OpenDoor
still supports Shareway back to System 7.5.5 and it might be worthwhile
to contact them for ideas and/or procedures to make it work. You will
note on the Shareway site that it states it works with 10.5.
Another somewhat kludgy work around is to enable ftp services on Mac OS X
10.5 and use an FTP program such as Fetch to access files on the OS X
10.5 machine.
