Dummy adev
The University of Melbourne
djh@munnari.OZ.AU
April, 1996
version 2.0
The Dummy adev is a client of the Network Control Panel
under classic AppleTalk and the AppleTalk Control Panel
under Open Transport. As the name implies, the adev does
absolutely nothing with any AppleTalk packets sent to it.
The Dummy adev is designed to be used on single serial
port Macs (ie: the PowerBook 500 series) to allow
AppleTalk to be left enabled and the serial port used
for non-LocalTalk purposes.
Normally, one would expect that switching to EtherTalk
would solve the problem. However, on an un-networked
machine, this sometimes generates an error.
The Dummy adev is available via FTP from munnari.OZ.AU
as the file
mac/dummy.adev.2.0.hqx
To install, un-BinHex and copy to the Extensions Folder.
